This is an honest Guide to fixing the Drift Stick issue on the Nintendo Switch

Full Video for Fixing Nintendo Switch Drift Stick

If you don’t have time to watch the video, here is a quick step by step guide.
NOTE — wear rubber gloves, I shocked my self a few times doing this

Amazon Tools
  1. Order Kit — It can take over a month to ship because the source is probably from China. So if you need your switch controller fixed now, just buy a new one. This kit cost about the same price as 1/3 a controller set (20$ CDN+Shipping)
NOTE — I only used the 2 screw drivers and the joysticks. The rest of the tools weren’t really necessary.
And one of the joy sticks was broken. I received a partial refund, but just an FYI, you could have a defective one when you order from Amazon.
Opening Nintendo Switch controller (Special Screws)

2. Unscrew 4 3-headed drill bit with screw driver (Nintendo Switch exclusive)

Move Battery of Nintendo Switch Controller

3. Move battery aside (You don’t need to disconnect), but be-careful of shock from battery

4. Unscrew 5 Cross-headed screws (4 under the battery, 1 on the bottom) to open the ZL/ZR controller plastic component (L/R button will fall out, no worries, its easy to put back in)

Important connectors for Nintendo Switch Joy Con

5. You only have to remove these 3 connections.
Remember the order when you put it back together
You don’t have to disconnect the ZL/RL connection, but it might be easier to install Joystick

Installing Joy Con

6. Remove 2 Cross-headed screws, and carefully remove the Drifting Joystick.
Then replace it with the new one, and that’s it.

I screwed up on installing the JoyCon

7. If the switch controller doesn’t work, you didn’t connect something right (It took me 3 hours to figure out what I did wrong)
Or it’s possible the joy stick just didn’t work

Calibrate Control Sticks

If that’s the case, turn on your switch and open the Calibrate Control Sticks menu. It has to stick to the middle and become a Cross, not a circle to confirm it works and it does not have a joy con issue. If it is still a circle without moving the stick, the joy stick has an issue.

And that’s it. If you have issues, comment on the video and I’ll help you out!
