A Heartwarming Love Story Meets the Golden Arches: The McWedding Proposal at the Top of Mont-Tremblant
[Ottawa, ON, Canada] Love knows no boundaries, not even during a pandemic. When Samuel Chen and Riza Saculles began their journey as a couple in 2020, little did they know that their love story would be uniquely intertwined with the iconic brand, McDonald’s. Now, they stand at the precipice of taking their relationship to the next level, with an extraordinary proposal at Mont-Tremblant, themed entirely around their McDonald’s-inspired love story.
Samuel and Riza’s romantic tale began during the height of COVID-19 when Riza’s nursing career kept them apart physically, but not emotionally. They turned to technology (Discord Video Call) and the ever-reliable McDonald’s (via Uber Eats) to start their first ever date virtually. Sending each other McDonald’s meals — a McChicken, a Filet-o-fish, and 20 nuggets — they kickstarted their love journey from just one “Happy Meal”.
The Golden Arches became a symbol of their relationship, celebrating their happiest moments at anniversaries, celebrations, and friends’ weddings (where McDonald’s definitely was the highlight meal of the night) and their go-to comfort food during challenging times. A shared passion for McDonald’s turned into cherished memories that they will forever cherish.
A year ago, they took a memorable gondola ride to Mont-Tremblant, where Samuel playfully asked Riza if she would marry him if they climbed the mountain together. She replied with a “yes”, setting the wheels in motion for an unforgettable proposal.
On the big day, Riza and Samuel hiked through the Grand-Brûlé Trail to the mountain lookout point (The 360° Observation Tower), where a giant McDonald’s M stood tall, catching her by surprise. As her heart raced with excitement, Samuel appeared before her, on one knee, holding a box of McNuggets with a breathtaking Ruby Red and Gold McNugget ring. Riza couldn’t help but laugh with sheer happiness as she joyfully said “yes” to this one-of-a-kind proposal as they hope to tie the knot #UnderTheArches in the near future.
Now, with their hearts set on celebrating their love in a uniquely McDonald’s way, Samuel has taken the initiative to reach out to McDonald’s Canada, sharing their heartwarming story and proposing the idea of making the McWedding into reality. The Canada team expressed interest in 2022, but subsequent restructuring at the company’s head office left their dreams in limbo. Zachary Bertino, manager of Merivale McDonald’s met Samuel before the proposal, the original location where they ordered their first McDonald’s meal together, and has expressed excitement to see this become a reality. “This is an incredible story, I met my wife when I started working at McDonald’s, and I truly would love to see more people share how McDonald’s goes beyond just a meal, but a catalyst to our memories with people we love the most”, said Zachary B.
However, Samuel and Riza remain hopeful, eagerly awaiting McDonald’s response to their heartfelt request. With the vision of a McWedding in mind, they dream of a wedding celebration featuring delectable McDonald’s food recreated for the special day. Like making Chicken Croquet from McChickens, Hamburger steak from Big Macs, and, of course, an ever-flowing McFlurry Machine. The possibilities are endless, including iconic McDonald’s Arches at the wedding venue, a McWedding dress, and even a bouquet filled with McNuggets.
The couple firmly believes that their McWedding would be a celebration unlike any other — a culmination of love, laughter, and the golden moments they shared over their beloved McDonald’s meals.
As the world waits with bated breath, Samuel and Riza extend an invitation to McDonald’s and other potential sponsors to join them on this extraordinary journey. Together, they hope to turn their dream of a McWedding into a heartwarming reality that will inspire love and happiness for generations to come.
